College students spend countless hours a week working on their academics. When the weekend comes, or in most cases Thursdays, students are ready to go just as hard in a different way. College entertainment is key for a healthy college atmosphere to give students a nice break from their school work. As each day progresses The Roost located right in Orono has continued to provide entertainment for students.
Owned by Jim Coleman the Roost provides live music about twice a week and has karokee night every Wednesday. The food at the Roost is very afforadable, and the main attraction to curb an appetite are the 45cent wings offered any day of the week with ten different flavors including original buffalo, teriyaki, bourbon, barbecue and orange chipotle.
The key to having a successful bar is spreading the word. The main draw of people is from the University and Jim Coleman knows that.
“We use local talent and we try to hire within the university” says Jim. He continued to say “it makes students want to come to the bar when they know the wait staff and the people around them.” Of the 33 employees at the Roost 29 are from the University.
The bar first opened January 26, 2010 and has made some drastic improvements since its opening.
“We have changed the interior, added another small bar and added two lounge areas.” These improvements will continue as long as the rise in popularity does as well.
With the growing popularity of the Roost Jim says in the future they may try to add another bar in the back and adding seating is an infinite process.
Jim says no matter what the changes are they will keep one thing the same, “cheap wings, cold beers, and a friendly staff.”
